La Manga Travel : To enjoy la Manga Spain travel you really need a hire car and during the Summer you should try for a car with AC. We have enjoyed many years of travel in la Manga and we feel its worth taking note of the following
First: The Spanish drive on the right of the road. That's obvious I know but even for the seasoned drivers its one area where you have to be present in NOW when you get into the car. Just the first few seconds every day remind yourself where you are. Get your partner or kids to remind you.
Second: The Spanish generally drive very fast and are somewhat impatient. Its not uncommon to see a big Merc pile down the road at 150mph. They hate it when cars cruise in the middle lane restricting their speed. The UK is pretty bad for drivers using the middle lane of three for the driving lane and the outside lane for overtaking. In Spain DO NOT. Pass in the middle lane or the outside but get back into the inside lane as soon as possible.
Third: Take extra care when driving on motorways where the divider between the two directions is often a deep grove. You dont want to get into that. In the dark the oncoming lights are very confusing. Our sincere advice is to drive more slowly when you are in Spain. When you start driving in Spain drive slowly at first anyway - what's the rush you are on holiday. La Manga Safety is very important.
Fourth: When you arrive at a incoming road on the Motorway make room for the arriving cars if possible - The Spanish do - so when in Spain....
Don't get us wrong here. Motoring in La Manga is a real pleasure and if you have a convertible even better. We just need to take a bit more care than when at home. La Manga Excursions can be great fun with lots of new things to see and do - and the odd glass of wine on the way
There is very little la Manga transport that is provided by the council. I've seen a fair few people waiting foe buses but I've never seen people actually getting on one. There is a bus service for residents that runs between the main points in the club. If you are at the Hotel its easy to use because the Front porter will call it for you to go say to Las Lomas or to the Spa. It also
Walking way to get around La Manga Club especially if you are having a few drinks.
Bon Voyage!
La Manga Travel Insurance is a good idea when you drive in Spain. Judging by the damage to the dividing walls on the roads, there are a lot of big crashes in Spain. For hospital you will need your card from the NHS in the UK, getting home after even a modest car crash could cost thousands plus extra accomodation. After a big crash - don't even think about it get travel insurance in la Manga before your trip (See our section in the top Menu)
Road Safety in La Manga is the same as in the UK certainly in the cities. Road Users may be phased by the speed cars travel on the motorway. Its the Alonso factor.
Sixth: Have a good map with you. The people you meet in the countryside do not speak English so you are on your own except for the broad direction to the nearest big town/city
