It has also been reported in recent years that The Catholic Church was active during the Franco period in the disappearence of thousands of babies for adoption. As in Ireland and the US these sex scandals in Spain have rocked the foundations of the Catholic Church. These scandals and the apparent cover-ups have broken the unspoken trust between laity and clergy.  There may indeed be many fine Catholic priests today in La Manga and elsewhere in Spain but how are the normal people of the Church ever to find it possible to trust them again with their Children. The present Pope has now to continuously apologise for the scandals. He was heavily involved in running the church in the years before he became Pope. and so is in a good position to be able to see what was going on.
