La Manga Club Spain is one of the world's best resorts and its easy to forget where you are. But! La Manga Club Resort is in Spain and a lot of the people you meet will be Spanish speakers. As in any other country using a little of the local language helps build a greater bond between all our countries and understanding the background to the country add to your holiday experience.
To understand Spain la Manga Club, first we should try to understand something of the Spanish Culture and its history. Spain has played a huge part in developing the world as we know it today. Rome and Carthage fought over what is modern Spain for 100's of years with the Romans eventually triumphant. The Romans also had to fight with Visigoths eventually abandoning much of the country. the Arabs conquered Spain around 700AD and ruled it for 700 years leaving a massive Moorish influence in architecture and the arts in its wake.
Whether you are a golfer or a tennis player, a bowler, cyclist, sailor, horse rider or you just want to chill out in the luxury Club you will still enjoy probably the best climate in Europe, some of the finest restaurants you will find anywhere and a fantastic Spa where you can regenerate and really relax. It's amazing that just 1400 acres of Spain can pack in so many excellent facilities - The South Course is my personal favourite Golf Course - but then I love the tennis too!.

The power of the Catholic Spanish Kings, who displaced the Arabs in 1492 with the fall of Granada, reached a peak under King Feilipe II who in his day controlled the Americas and significant territory including the Philippines and Portugal. The country's success eventually waned under the stress of foreign wars and internal strife but like the British Empire it was the 19th Century before Spain shed the last of its colonies with Cuba, The Philippines and Puerto Rico gaining independence.

The legacy left by the glory of Spain shaped our modern world. Events such as The voyages of Christopher Columbus and the discovery of the Americas, the Spanish Inquisition, The Spanish Armada, The Spanish American War, The Spanish Civil War
In the arts also Spain has left a towering legacy with El Greco, Ribera, Velazquez, Goya, Picao, Braque, Dali and Miro all giants of the art world.
Spanish Politics are equally interesting. People often say that Spain is more than one country and given its history above its not difficult to see how that may have come about. In the aftermath of the Franco regiem in 1975, the Spanish people took very seriously the need for political reform. Finally in 1978 a new constitution was agreed. Spain is a Constitutional Monarchy with the King as head of state with a devolved parlimentary democratic system. Central power is vested in two houses of Parliament. The President of the Government (Prime Minister) is elected every four years. Despite a bloodless coup attempt in 1981, the system has been very successful.
Power is devolved in Spain to 7 regional entities and further to municipalities but the constitution declares the indisolubility of the Spanish State. Powers such as defence are retained for the central governmnent.
Spain is passionate about sport. Football is the National Sport and success is very important for the many fans. But in other sports too, Spain has its heros. In Golf, Ballesteros is a legend but Miguel Jimenez, Juan Garcia and Olazabal are all names to be admired. In Tennis. Nadal heads a list of spectacular Spanish Players, while in Motor Racing there is Alonso. Its good to recall Seve when you are playing la Manga Golf Club as he designed the first version of the courses.
So in this short article we hope to have drawn a picture of La Manga in Spain. In many ways its similar to the UK and its very important to bring to La Manga on holiday a sense of who your hosts are. A little of the language is also important. Hola, Adios, Por Favor, Gracias, Si, No are the basics but the more you use Spanish to the Spanish staff at La Manga Club in Spain the more you will get from them and enrich your Spanish holiday - remember dos bier por favor and you won't go far wrong.
Adios! Enjoy your holidays in club la Manga la Manga!
