Alhambra Spain Our La Manga Tourist Information is proud to present The Alhambra (the red palace) which is located near Granada, Andalusia in Southern Spain, about a 3 hour drive from La Manga Club. It was built using red clay in the 14th Century for the Muslim Emirs in Spain on top of an 9thCentury citadel.
It fell into disrepair after the Christian reconquest and was only restored in 19th Century after being damaged by an earthquake in 1821. It a now an UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Spain’s major attractions in la Manga.
The layout of the palace buildings is mainly quadrangular covering an area of over 140,000 sq metres. All the rooms look into a courtyard. The quadrangles are decorated with column arcades. Pools and fountains are fed by a 5 mile conduit. The exterior is a plain red colour but inside decoration is lavish with blue, red and bright yellow. There is extensive use of painted tiles

It has to be one of the top places to visit in La Manga and indeed in the whole of Spain. It is a look back into a period of Spain's history when large parts of it were under the control of a Muslim culture.
Alhambra is a 3 to 4 hour drive from La Manga Club and with so much to see it is not practical to visit it in one day. As Alhambra is very close to the city of Granada it is worth staying for at least one night there and making an early start for your visit to the site.
